UK-based Nscale has officially positioned itself at the forefront of the burgeoning AI infrastructure sector after securing a monumental $2 billion in Series C funding. This funding has propelled the company’s valuation to an impressive $14.6 billion, marking a significant milestone for Nscale and the European tech landscape.
This record-setting funding round was spearheaded by Aker ASA and 8090 Industries, receiving substantial backing from notable firms such as Astra Capital Management, Dell, Jane Street, and Nvidia. As a result of this influx of capital, Nscale is set to boost its operations globally, developing a vertically integrated AI infrastructure that emphasizes GPU compute, data services, networking, and orchestration software. The expansion will span key regions, including Europe, North America, and Asia.
Adding to the positive momentum, Nscale has announced the appointment of three prominent figures to its board of directors: Sheryl Sandberg, former COO of Meta; Nick Clegg, former deputy prime minister of the UK and current president of global affairs at Meta; and Susan Decker, former president of Yahoo. Their strategic insights and industry experience could provide Nscale with an invaluable competitive edge as the company navigates the complex AI landscape.
Josh Payne, Nscale’s CEO and founder, described the current surge in AI technology as “the largest infrastructure buildout in human history.” He foresees a future where AI is seamlessly integrated into every industry, product, and job within the next five years. This ambitious outlook underscores Nscale’s critical role in establishing the foundational elements necessary for advanced AI capabilities.
Rayyan Islam of 8090 Industries highlighted the need for improved infrastructure, which remains a limiting factor in what he terms “a new era defined by AI.” Nscale’s strategy of vertically integrating essential AI infrastructure components—from power and data centers to computing and orchestration—positions it well to tackle these challenges head-on.
In addition to their new funding, Nscale has established significant partnerships, including ongoing deals with Microsoft related to infrastructural developments for European and US data centers. This not only enhances Nscale’s credibility but also expands its operational capacity in key markets.
This latest influx funds comes in the wake of a previous $433 million SAFE round last October, building on Nscale’s record as a momentum-shifting player in the European tech scene.
As the landscape of AI continues to evolve, Nscale’s innovative approach and substantial financial backing place it in a prime position to lead this transformative era of technology—a time where infrastructure will be as crucial as the algorithms that run on it.
Interestingly, research indicates that by 2025, the global market for AI is expected to exceed $190 billion, further illustrating the growing importance and demand for robust AI infrastructure.
