Southern Cross Media has announced the appointment of Peter Charles as managing director of Melbourne, where he will oversee operations for both the Seven Network and SCA radio business. This move marks a significant milestone in Charles’s 25-year career at the Seven Network, where he has held various roles, including managing director and Victorian sales director.

Charles expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating, “The opportunity ahead of us is massive,” in a post on LinkedIn. He underlined his commitment to harnessing the talent within Melbourne’s media landscape, saying, “After 30 years in Melbourne media, I know exactly how much talent we have in this city. Bringing these two teams and iconic brands—Triple M, Fox, LiSTNR, Seven & 7+—together is something I am genuinely proud to lead.”

As he embarks on this new chapter, Charles aims to set the foundation for long-term success while ensuring his teams have the necessary support to excel. He will continue to serve in his current roles as managing director and sales director for Seven Melbourne, allowing him to maintain direct involvement with his successful sales team.

His leadership will also align closely with Katie Finney and Ken Wood, who are integral members of the SCA Melbourne Leadership team. “I am incredibly proud to continue reporting to Katie and working closely with Ken and the wider SCA Melbourne Leadership team as we align our goals,” he said.

Additionally, Charles highlighted his excitement to collaborate with Victoria Young, who leads SCA Melbourne’s revenue performance, noting her expertise as being “second to none.”

This leadership transition comes at a time when media organizations must adapt to rapid changes in consumer behavior and digital landscapes. Under Charles’s stewardship, Southern Cross Media appears poised to strengthen its position in a competitive environment, navigating challenges while capitalizing on emerging opportunities.
