In a significant move for the advertising landscape, Omnicom Media India has joined forces with JioStar and Whisper World to introduce a groundbreaking in-content advertising (ICA) solution. This innovative approach caters to an increasingly fragmented audience, employing integrated brand storytelling across linear television, OTT, and connected TV platforms. The collaboration kicks off with NIVEA India, marking a strategic alignment with evolving consumer preferences for premium, ad-light viewing experiences.
As consumer viewing habits shift, Omnicom’s new initiative aims to directly embed brand messages within content, rather than interrupt it with traditional ad breaks. This tactic is set to provide brands with a more harmonious way to engage with audiences, and comes as a response to findings from their Connected Content study, which underscores the evolving dynamics of audience engagement across multiple formats and platforms.
Kartik Sharma, CEO of Omnicom Media India, emphasized that the partnership signifies a necessary evolution in audience engagement. “This collaboration creates a unified framework connecting brands to viewers through content-led integrations, responding to their intentional viewing habits,” Sharma noted.
The ICA solution harnesses shared audience intelligence and viewing data, utilizing Acxiom TV audience segments across JioStar’s extensive properties. This data-driven approach informs the strategic placement of in-content advertisements, ensuring that messaging resonates well with specific shows and audience profiles.
Execution will occur across JioStar’s linear television and streaming platform, JioHotstar, encompassing both subscription (SVOD) and ad-supported (AVOD) content. The ICA format, often integrated between scenes, is particularly suited for popular daily soaps and entertainment shows.
The technology supporting this innovative solution is powered by Whisper World’s ICA platform, developed in collaboration with Silicon Valley-based Rembrand. LS Krishnan, CEO of Whisper World India, remarked on the pressing need for ad formats that achieve a balance of reach and consumer attention, especially as capturing the latter has become increasingly challenging.
Mahesh Shetty, Head of Entertainment Sales (TV) at JioStar, reinforced the initiative’s relevance in today’s media landscape. “We are focused on creating advertising formats that mirror the ways audiences consume content today,” Shetty stated, advocating for a blend of cross-screen reach and contextual relevance.
For NIVEA India, this campaign offers a route to accessing a premium, diverse audience across platforms while upholding a coherent content strategy. Shweta Dalal, Marketing Director at NIVEA India, remarked that the ICA approach fosters more meaningful consumer connections, allowing the brand to weave itself naturally into storytelling without the disruption of traditional advertising.
Measurement frameworks are in place to evaluate the campaign’s effectiveness, focusing on key metrics such as reach, frequency, GRPs, and opportunity-to-see. Brand lift studies will further assess the impact on recall, awareness, and consumer consideration.
Looking ahead, Omnicom Media India and its partners plan to extend the ICA programme across more Beiersdorf brands within India, alongside broadening its integration into JioStar’s expansive content portfolio, with an emphasis on attracting premium streaming and connected TV audiences.
