The City of Newcastle has recently appointed Kaimera to spearhead its media strategy and planning for cultural initiatives, notably including the flagship arts festival, New Annual, and the Newcastle Art Gallery. This appointment follows a rigorous competitive tender process, underscoring the city’s commitment to enhancing its cultural portfolio.
Kaimera is set to oversee integrated media activities across both offline and digital channels, ensuring a comprehensive reach. This initial collaboration will center on New Annual, which successfully attracted over 50,000 attendees in 2025, alongside the esteemed Newcastle Art Gallery. Together, these assets are integral to Newcastle’s burgeoning cultural economy, which contributed around $565 million to the local economy in the 2023-24 fiscal year.
Conor Riordan, Kaimera’s general manager, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “We are delighted to be supporting the City of Newcastle at a time when arts and culture are playing an increasingly important role in shaping the city’s identity and visitor economy,” he commented. He highlighted the agency’s strong ties to various regional areas, stressing their dedication to partnerships that yield significant cultural and economic benefits.
“New Annual and Newcastle Art Gallery are among the city’s most significant and unique assets,” Riordan noted. “They play a crucial role in attracting visitors, fostering creativity, and showcasing Newcastle to diverse audiences across Australia.” Kaimera is eager to assist the City as it embarks on a transformative 10-year cultural vision, aiming to amplify both local and international stories to broaden its audience reach.
The agency will work collaboratively with Newcastle’s marketing, destination, and cultural teams to engineer strategic media campaigns that not only engage local audiences but also draw visitors from regional and interstate markets.
Nick Kaiser, executive manager of media engagement, economy, and corporate affairs at the City of Newcastle, praised Kaimera’s understanding of the pivotal role that arts and culture play in the city’s future growth. “Their strategic approach, audience insight, and track record in delivering integrated media campaigns made them the right partner to enhance our reach and connect more people with Newcastle’s cultural experiences,” Kaiser stated.
As Newcastle continues to invest in and expand its cultural offerings, the partnership with Kaimera promises to be instrumental in telling the city’s story to audiences both locally and beyond.
