CLARKSTON – After a remarkable 26-year tenure with Clarkston Community Schools, Athletic Director Jeff Kosin has announced his retirement, marking the conclusion of a notable chapter in the school’s athletic history. Kosin has spent the last decade leading the athletic program, culminating in an impressive record of 57 league titles, 55 district titles, and over 20 state championships.

“It has been an honor to be here,” Kosin reflected on his career. His legacy is illustrated not just by numerous accolades but also by the OAA Directors Cup, which he secured for five consecutive years since 2021.

Kosin emphasized the collaborative effort behind these achievements. “It’s all of our coaches and our kids putting themselves in the right spot to win,” he stated. His tenure has been marked not just by metrics of success but by the relationships he fostered within the community. “While those are important,” he added, “it’s through the relationships with the coaches, players, and the community that I will remember most.”

Beginning his journey as an eighth-grade teacher at Sashabaw Middle School, Kosin worked his way through various positions, eventually succeeding Coach Dan Fife in 2016. His admission of “luck” in his ascent highlights both the honor and the privilege he felt serving the community where his own family has roots.

“It truly is one of those dream jobs,” Kosin shared, mourning the departure from a job intertwined with his family’s life—his wife, April, is a teacher, and their three sons have all been through the schools. “It’s a great place to live and work,” he added, encapsulating the community spirit that defines Clarkston.

The athletes have been central to Kosin’s experience, reminding him of the intrinsic motivations that drive educators. “People go into education for the kids,” he stated, emphasizing the pride he feels watching students flourish. His role has allowed him to mentor a plethora of coaches within the district, amplifying the sporting tradition that he has inherited.

As he prepares for life post-retirement, Kosin remains youthful in spirit. “I am eager for the next chapter,” he claimed, intending to take active roles in his sons’ remaining school years. He expressed enthusiasm about being a father first, stating, “It will be great to watch Brooks during his senior year and be there as a dad.”
