cannes lions 2025 grand prix trophy supplied june2

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity continues to illuminate the dynamic intersection of brands and fandom, as day two revealed an impressive roster of winners across various entertainment categories.

Among the highlights, the Grand Prix in the Entertainment Lions category was awarded to ‘Original Forever’ for adidas, a collaborative effort from Johannes Leonardo in New York and adidas in London. Simon Cook, CEO of LIONS, praised the judges for their high creative standards, having sifted through 656 entries to eventually award 20 Lions: 3 Gold, 6 Silver, and 10 Bronze. This piece resonated strongly with the jury due to its remarkable timing and relevance in a consumer landscape littered with brands striving for pseudo-significance.

Chris Beresford-Hill, chief creative officer at BBDO Worldwide and president of the Entertainment Lions jury, noted, “In a world yearning for authentic connections, this piece stood apart by genuinely connecting with the right audience.” Clearly, the notion of demonstrating relevance is gaining momentum among creators.

The Entertainment Lions for Gaming awarded its Grand Prix to ‘Copycats Welcome’ for Clash Royale, developed by David in New York. The initiative focused on welcoming players of knock-off games back into the fold, prioritising community over traditional intellectual property disputes. M+C Saatchi Group’s global chief creative officer, Lolly Thomson, expressed that this strategy was not only innovative but also generous, facilitating a deeper sense of belonging among gamers.

In the music category, the jury bestowed two Grand Prix awards after receiving 318 entries. ‘Rosalía Ft. Björk, Yves Tumor – Berghain’ was highlighted along with adidas’ ‘Original Forever’ for their strong artistic and brand collaborations. Matt Murphy, global chief creative officer at 72andSunny and music jury president, summed it up succinctly: “Commitment is key, and both awarded pieces exemplified this through their integration of music in storytelling.”

The sport-focused Entertainment Lions saw the Grand Prix go to ‘The Thousand Sponsors of Muni’, developed for Club Deportivo Municipal by McCann in Lima. Shannon Washington, the entertainment jury president for sports, was captivated by the creative prowess that turned a crisis into a narrative of community strength and belonging, redefining the role of sponsorship in sports.

In Design, Apple’s ‘Apple TV Rebrand’ received the Grand Prix, celebrated for its human-centric design and cinematic storytelling. Greg Quinton, chief creative officer at Design Bridge and Partners, applauded the effort for showcasing the artistry behind the technology, which resonates in an age dominated by superficial digital gimmicks.

Digital Craft saw ‘Project Genie’ from Google earn the Grand Prix, highlighting the increasing synergy between creativity and technology. Andrés Ordóñez, global chief creative officer at McCann, stated that the project showcases the endless possibilities that arise when innovation meets imagination.

The Film Craft and Industry Craft categories were equally competitive, with significant achievements including the Grand Prix for ‘Your Way Out’ for Coinbase and ‘Tiny Coffee Shops’ for De’Longhi, respectively. Both exemplified a commitment to craftsmanship and emotional resonance that elevated them above the rest.

As the Cannes Lions festival unfolds, it undoubtedly provides fertile ground for the exploration of how brands can authentically engage with communities. As Cook noted, the spotlight on creativity serves as a critical reminder: brands must not only manufacture relevance but genuinely connect.
