Abu Dhabi-based AD Ports Group is making significant strides in Egypt, launching cruise services across three key terminals in Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, and Safaga. This expansion follows a 15-year concession agreement signed in 2024 with Egypt’s Red Sea Ports Authority, allowing the company to operate and enhance the cruise terminals along the country’s Red Sea coast.

The official unveiling of these services aligns with the arrival of the Aroya cruise ship at Sharm El Sheikh Cruise Port, marking a historic moment as this is the first time the vessel has docked directly in the coastal city. The improved docking facilities at the port are a result of collaborative efforts between AD Ports Group and local authorities, showcasing a commitment to enhancing passenger experiences.

Aroya Cruises has recently resumed its Red Sea sailings after temporary suspensions due to regional tensions. Following its May itineraries, the cruise line will continue with seven-night Mediterranean voyages from Türkiye, stopping at various destinations in Greece and Egypt.

Noura Al Dhaheri, Chief Executive Officer of Cruise Business at AD Ports Group, emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating: “Through close collaboration with our partners, we will continue to elevate passenger experience by delivering world-class facilities and seamless services.”

This partnership indicates a growing momentum in Red Sea cruise tourism, with Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, and Safaga fortifying their positions on both regional and international cruise itineraries. Beyond Egypt, AD Ports Group also manages Jordan’s Aqaba Cruise Terminal in conjunction with the Aqaba Development Corporation.

The group’s ambitions extend well beyond cruise operations, as it continues to broaden its logistics and maritime footprint in Egypt. Significant projects on the horizon include the US$200 million Noatum Ports Safaga Terminal and the 20km Kezad East Port Said Industrial and Logistics Park near the Suez Canal.

In a move that reinforces its investment strategy in Egypt, AD Ports Group allocated US$279 million to acquire a 19.3% stake in Alexandria Container & Cargo Handling Company (ALCN), making it one of the predominant container terminal operators in the nation.
